International Fantasies

I am perplexed, bewildered, confused. This link http://www.upi.com/NewsTrack/Top_News/2007/12/27/un_to_team_up_with_marvel_comics/3128/ tells me that the UN, yes that would be the United Nations, has decided to partner with Marvel Comics to depict superheroes cooperating with the United Nations to solve knotty problems around the world. According to the article, the purpose is
“to bolster its international image damaged by the unilateral diplomatic efforts of some Western countries by teaching children the value of international cooperation.”

I know, I know—we live in a world where anyone can stand up and say anything and call it truth, but the United Nations entering fantasy land of image maintenance baffle me. My flummoxed thinking comes to rest when I remember this—
“And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”

Hallelujah to the Lamb of God!

I've learned recently that perception is established with only two notions depicting one characterstic. It seems to me that even the united nations needs to hire superheros in order to battle the dangers of perception vs reality. Unfortunatly, I'm cynical enough to believe that the superheros will still spin a new perception instead of reality.

I hope that next time fason jullen is in NY, someone from the UN sees him and offers him a job doing UN promotions as "The Thing." That would be really cool.
