Colossians 1:15-23

My small group is studying Colossians. During this week's study, Colossians 1:15-23, I began to realize that this short passage answers a host of life questions. Here are the ones we came up with. Can anyone add others?

  • Questions which are answered by this passage
    Where did I come from?
    Why am I here?
    Where am I going?
Is Jesus the Son of God?
    Is anyone stronger than God?
How did the earth get here?
How does the earth sustain itself?
Where does the church get its authority?
How did Jesus get supremacy over all things?
How much of God is in Jesus
    Where does peace come from?
What is life like without Christ?
How do I have relationship with God?

It also tells me Jesus = Church.

I hear lots from students about how wicked "church" is and then how wonderful Jesus is. I tell them you can not separate the two. (Well you can but that would be foolishness). But in a God honoring church Jesus is not a distant reality. He is the very core.

Sometimes the state of the church scares me. I ask a question in Sunday School and the eyes of women who have been believers for 50 years glaze over. I think the problem is that the church stiffled thinking for so long. In my little corner of the world, I am trying to remedy that.
